Rhoda Blount, Mann Center VP of Education & Community Engagement Receives 2013 Community Impact Award

On Thursday, December 19, 2013, our own Rhoda A. Blount, VP of Education & Community Engagement, was honored during the inaugural “It’s Your Time” Jazz & Art Benefit. Hosted by Indigo Blue Design Concepts (IBDC) and held at the African American Museum in Philadelphia (AAMP), this event brought together supporters of live jazz, fine art, and philanthropy. In fitting with the themes of the evening, Ms. Blount was presented with the 2013 Community Impact Award by Cassandra Green, founder of Mill Creek Community Partnership (MCCP), for her dedication to arts and education in Philadelphia over the past 30+ years. In addition, AAMP Visitor Services Manager Deborah Johnson presented Ms. Blount with a Citation of Honor from the City of Philadelphia. In her remarks, Ms. Johnson noted that “they say it takes a village to raise a child; [Rhoda] is that village.”

Setting the atmosphere for this emotional and joyful evening were live jazz performances by Brent White & Friends and Kimpedro’s Nu Gruv Network, as well as a special exhibit of artwork created especially for the event by artist and IBDC client Jerry Adam Puryear.
